The review

This is the odd one on the page, and in the buyer's favour. The Go 5 costs $39.95 and the Go 4 it replaces costs $49.95 — the newer speaker is ten dollars cheaper, holds a stronger water rating (IP68 against IP67) and runs an hour longer. There is usually a catch when that happens. Here the catch is that it is new: 751 ratings against the Go 4's 19,109.

The battery claim needs unpicking, and JBL unpicks it themselves. The bullet is headed «10-HOUR BATTERY» and then says, in the same sentence, «up to 8 hours, then squeeze out 2 more with Playtime Boost». Eight is the number you get without thinking about it, so eight is what our table says. Amazon's table, for its part, has no battery row at all.

The power figure is 4.8 W. Two rows up on this same site, the JBL Clip 5 claims 180 W and the Go 4 claims 180 W. Same brand, same field. This one is probably the honest one, which tells you what the other two are worth.

For a handlebar it is the lightest option here at 231 g, and IP68 is the strongest water rating of the five. The loop is fabric and thinner than the Clip 5's carabiner — better on a backpack strap than clamped to a bar.

The good

  • $39.95 — cheaper than the older Go 4, with more battery and a better seal
  • IP68, the strongest water rating of the bike speakers here
  • 231 g, the lightest here
  • Edge lighting doubles as a battery and pairing indicator
  • App control and stereo pairing by tapping two together
  • Signal-to-noise ratio published: 85 dB

The not so good

  • The «10-hour battery» is 8 hours plus a boost mode, by JBL's own bullet
  • Only 751 ratings — the smallest sample on this site
  • «Mounting Type: Floor Standing» on a 231 g speaker with a loop
  • «Audio Output Mode: Surround» on a single driver
  • The spec table has no battery row at all
  • No maximum volume published, like every other speaker here
  • A fabric loop, not a carabiner: better on a strap than on a handlebar

Other specs

The «10-hour battery» is eightJBL's own bullet, in full: «Keep the portable audio going for up to 8 hours, then squeeze out 2 more with Playtime Boost». The headline of that same bullet says 10-HOUR BATTERY. We publish the 8.
4.8 watts, next to the Clip 5's 180Same brand, same field, same catalogue. This one looks like the real figure and the other two look like whatever was in the feed. Either way the column is unusable for comparing.
It is cheaper than the Go 4 it replaces$39.95 against $49.95 for the older model, with a stronger water rating (IP68 against IP67) and an extra hour of battery. That is unusual enough to be worth checking before buying either.
«Mounting Type: Floor Standing»It weighs 231 g and has a fabric loop. There is no floor involved.
«Audio Output Mode: Surround»One driver. Surround needs several, in different places.
«Frequency Response: 20 hertz»A single number where a range belongs. And 20 Hz from a speaker this size is not happening.
No battery field at allThe table has no row for battery life. The 8 hours exists only inside a marketing bullet.
Signal-to-noise ratio85 dB — one of the few real audio figures published on any speaker here.

What buyers say

A summary of the reviews published on Amazon.com as of 2026-09-09.

4.6 out of 5 4.6 751 ratings

4.6 out of 5 from 751 ratings, a listing only weeks old. Early buyers praise the size, the lighting and the price against the Go 4. The complaints are the expected ones at this size — volume outdoors and thin bass — plus a few about the USB cable not being included, which the box contents confirm.
