The review

If you want music on a handlebar, this is the shape that works: the carabiner is moulded into the body, the gate is wide enough to close around a 25 mm bar, and there is nothing to unclip and lose. IP67 means road spray is not a problem, and 12 hours covers any ride you are likely to take.

And then you read the specifications. «Speaker Maximum Output Power: 180 watts» — on a speaker the size of a fist. «Speaker Size: 12 inches» — on a body 5.3 inches tall. «Battery Capacity: 12 amp_hours», which is the twelve hours of playtime typed into the wrong field. «Frequency Response: 0.12 GHz», which is a radio frequency.

The 180 W is not a rounding error, it is a pattern. The JBL Go 4 further down this page carries exactly the same 180 W. The newer Go 5 says 4.8 W. Same brand, same catalogue, same field, and the numbers differ by a factor of thirty-seven. Whatever the watt column on Amazon is measuring, it is not sound.

What nobody publishes — not JBL, not Bose, not Anker, not one of the ten speakers on this site — is how loud it actually goes in decibels. On a bike at 25 km/h, wind noise at your ear is around 70 dB. That single number would tell you whether you will hear anything, and it is the one number the whole industry leaves out.

The good

  • A carabiner moulded into the body, wide enough for a handlebar
  • IP67: road spray, rain and a dropped speaker are all fine
  • 12 hours, plus 3 more with Playtime Boost
  • Pairs with a second Clip 5 in stereo, or with any Auracast JBL
  • 280 g, and that figure is the speaker
  • 4.6 from 8,931 ratings
  • $20 below list

The not so good

  • The spec table claims 180 watts and a 12-inch driver
  • No maximum volume in decibels — the only figure that matters on a bike
  • «Battery Capacity: 12 amp_hours» is the playtime in the wrong field
  • «Frequency Response: 0.12 GHz» is a radio band
  • No aux input and no microphone
  • One-year warranty, against Anker's two

Other specs

«Speaker Maximum Output Power: 180 watts»On a speaker that fits in a fist. A hundred and eighty watts is a home theatre. The JBL Go 4 on this same page carries the identical 180 W figure, and the newer JBL Go 5 says 4.8 W. Three speakers from one brand, one of the three numbers real at most.
«Speaker Size: 12 inches»The whole speaker is 5.3 inches tall. A twelve-inch driver does not fit inside it — that is a floor-standing woofer.
«Battery Capacity: 12 amp_hours»Twelve amp-hours at cell voltage is about 44 Wh, roughly a laptop battery. Someone typed the twelve hours of playtime into the capacity field.
«Frequency Response: 0.12 GHz»A hundred and twenty megahertz. That is a radio band, not a sound.
The carabiner is the one field they got right«Mounting Type: Built-in Carabiner». It is also the reason this is the speaker to hang off a handlebar rather than a backpack strap — a wide gate closes on a 25 mm bar.
Two ranges, ten times apart«Bluetooth Range: 10 meters» and «Maximum Range: 100 meters», two rows apart.
There is no subwoofer«Subwoofer Connectivity Technology: Wired», on a sealed speaker with one driver and no ports.

What buyers say

A summary of the reviews published on Amazon.com as of 2026-09-09.

4.6 out of 5 4.6 8,931 ratings

4.6 out of 5 from 8,931 ratings. The carabiner and the size are what buyers mention first, and cyclists show up repeatedly in the sample. The complaints are about volume outdoors — which is exactly the figure the listing does not publish — and about bass, which physics does not allow at this size.
