The review

The Go 4 is the safe version of the Go 5: same shape, same loop, one fewer hour of battery, IP67 instead of IP68 — and 19,109 ratings against 751. If you want a small JBL that thousands of people have already broken in, this is it.

What it also is, right now, is ten dollars more expensive than its own replacement. $49.95 against $39.95. That happens when a new model launches into a discount and the old one holds list price, and it usually corrects. Look at both before you buy either.

The spec table is the worst on this site. It gives a speaker measuring 3.7 by 1.7 by 3 inches a twelve-inch subwoofer — the size of a car wheel — and then adds that the subwoofer connects wirelessly. It claims 180 watts, the same figure as the Clip 5 and thirty-seven times the Go 5's. It says the battery takes seven hours to charge, which is exactly how long it runs. And four rows below «Number of Audio Channels: 2» it says «Audio Output Mode: Mono».

None of that changes what arrives. It does tell you that on Amazon, for portable speakers, the numbers are decoration.

The good

  • 19,109 ratings at 4.6 — by far the largest sample of the bike speakers here
  • 190 g, and the figure is the speaker
  • IP67 against rain and road spray
  • A fabric loop moulded in, nothing to lose
  • Stereo pairing and Auracast with other JBLs
  • 7 hours plus 2 with Playtime Boost

The not so good

  • $49.95 — ten dollars more than the newer Go 5, which does more
  • «Subwoofer Diameter: 12 inches» on a speaker 9 cm across
  • 180 watts claimed, the same figure as the Clip 5
  • The listing says it takes 7 hours to charge and runs for 7
  • Mono in one row, two channels four rows above
  • 7 hours is the shortest battery of the bike speakers here
  • No app EQ, no aux, no microphone

Other specs

«Subwoofer Diameter: 12 inches»The speaker measures 3.7 by 1.7 by 3 inches. A twelve-inch subwoofer is the size of a car wheel. It also says «Subwoofer Connectivity Technology: Wireless», for a subwoofer that does not exist.
«Speaker Maximum Output Power: 180 watts»The identical figure to the JBL Clip 5, and thirty-seven times what the newer Go 5 claims. Whatever populates this field is not measuring these speakers.
«Battery Charge Time: 7 hours»Exactly as long as the battery lasts. Seven hours of charging for seven hours of music. This is the third product on the site with the runtime copied into the charge-time field.
Mono and two channels at once«Audio Output Mode: Mono» four rows below «Number of Audio Channels: 2».
It costs more than the model that replaced it$49.95 against $39.95 for the Go 5, which is newer, lasts an hour longer and is rated IP68. Check both prices before buying this one.
«Frequency Response: 20000 hertz»A single number, and the top of the range rather than the range.
The loop is the one honest row«Mounting Type: Built-in Loop». True, and it is what makes this a bag-strap speaker rather than a handlebar one.
19,109 ratingsTwenty-five times the sample behind the Go 5. That is the real argument for buying the older model.

What buyers say

A summary of the reviews published on Amazon.com as of 2026-09-09.

4.6 out of 5 4.6 19,109 ratings

4.6 out of 5 from 19,109 ratings, built up over two years. The praise is the size and the toughness, with a striking number of reviews from people who have dropped or soaked one. The recurring complaint is battery life, which is the number JBL cut to make it this small.
